Fainter to Lead Roanoke Women's Tennis
Former VHSL Coach of the Year Ready for Next Step
SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College Athletic
Director Scott Allison has announced the hiring of new
women’s tennis coach, Justin Fainter, on Monday
morning. He takes over the position that was held by 13-year
coaching veteran Scott Gibson, who resigned in May.
“I am excited to begin my college coaching career at Roanoke
College and look forward to being a part of the Maroon
Family,” said Fainter. “I know there are some
outstanding players in the program. I appreciate the role
that Scott [Gibson] has played in this transition. The
program seems to be in very good shape.”
This past spring, Fainter completed his Master’s Degree in
Teaching from James Madison University. While attending both
undergraduate and grad school at JMU, Justin served as the Head
Boy’s Tennis Coach at Harrisonburg High School. His
teams won three district championships, a regional runner-up and
two regional championships. In the spring of 2009, Fainter
was honored by the VHSL as the Region III Coach-of-the-Year.
Over the past several summers, he has served as an instructor at
various tennis camps, including Washington and Lee, William and
Mary, and Penn State.
Fainter will be inheriting a team that finished 9-5, 7-3 in the
ODAC. Junior All-ODAC players Laura Dodson and Corbin Leitch
will lead the Maroons next spring in search of the programs’
seventh 10-win season. The team has posted back-to-back
winning seasons and earned its 200th win since joining
the Division III ranks in 1979.
His new position begins on August 1. The fall season will
begin in mid-September and will run into late October.
