Katy Bergey, Bridgewater, Sophomore, No. 1/2 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Bergey, a sophomore from Harrisonburg, Va., stayed red-hot in singles and doubles action to help lead the Bridgewater Eagles women’s tennis team to a perfect 3-0 week on the courts. The sophomore opened the week with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Roanoke’s Corbin Leitch before posting a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on Saturday against Guilford’s Natalie Sutton. On Sunday, Bergey bumped up to number one singles and claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan’s Jordan Hill. In doubles action, Bergey also went unbeaten with teammate Katie Gordon at number one doubles. Against Roanoke, the tandem picked up an 8-3 victory before posting an 8-1 win on Saturday against Guilford. Bergey and Gordon closed out the week with an 8-1 win at Virginia Wesleyan.

Karen Montoya, Hollins, Junior, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Montoya, a junior from Delicias, Mexico, picks up her second weekly award after leading Hollins to three victories last week. She was nearly perfect in top flight singles and doubles action. Against Mary Baldwin, Montoya won 6-0, 6-1 in singles play and teamed with sister Patricia Montoya for an 8-1 win in doubles competition. Against Sweet Briar, Karen won 6-0, 6-0 and 8-0 in singles and doubles action against the Vixens. She capped her week with 6-0, 6-1 and 8-4 wins against Southern Virginia. Montoya is now 12-0 in singles play this spring, all but two coming from the No. 1 singles position.

Bergey, a sophomore from Harrisonburg, Va., led the Bridgewater Eagles women’s tennis team to a 3-0 week on the courts by running up a perfect 6-0 combined week with three wins in singles and doubles action. Bergey opened the week with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number two against Lynchburg before rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Randolph. The sophomore rounded out the week with a 6-0, 6-0 victory on Saturday at Emory & Henry. With doubles teammate Katie Gordon at number one, Bergey picked up an 8-4 victory against the Hornets before rolling to back-to-back 8-1 wins on Friday and Saturday against Randolph and Emory & Henry, respectively. Bergey has now won five straight matches in singles play and three in a row in doubles.

Patricia Kirkland, Washington and Lee, Freshman, No. 4/6 Singles, No. 2/3 Doubles
Kirkland, a freshman from Charleston, S.C., was nearly unscathed against some of the best competition in the country at the Fab Five Tournament this past week. Against top-ranked Williams, she won her No. 6 singles contest 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 before falling 6-8 in No. 2 doubles. Against seventh-ranked Tufts, Kirkland helped the Generals to a team-win with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles. She went on to post an 8-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles. In the Generals' final match against fourth-ranked Emory, Kirkland won at No. 3 doubles 8-3, but her singles match went unfinished in the shortened affair.

Bergey, a sophomore from Harrisonburg, Va., led the Bridgewater Eagles women’s tennis team to a 2-0 week on the courts including a big conference victory over Hollins. Bergey opened the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at her number two singles post against R-MC’s Morgan Parks before knocking off Hollins’ Victoria Coffee by a 6-2, 6-4 tally to move to 2-0 in singles play on the week. With doubles teammate Katie Gordon, Bergey picked up an easy 8-0 win in top flight doubles action against the Yellow Jackets before the duo dropped a tight 8-6 match to the Montoya sisters from Hollins.

Karen Montoya, Hollins, Junior, No. 1 Singles, No. 3 Doubles
Montoya, a junior from Delicias, Mexico, scored the biggest individual win of the season for Hollins. In a match against Washington and Lee, Montoya came back for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 1 singles over the Generals' Lauren Lukas, the 17th rated player in the region by the ITA. Montoya is now 3-0 in singles play with this marking her first match from the top ladder position this spring.

Sonja Meighan, Washington and Lee, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Meighan, a freshman from McLean, Va., posted a 5-1 overall record (3-0 at #1 singles, 2-1 at #2 doubles) over the weekend, helping the Generals win the ITA Indoor National Championships. She dropped her only match of the championships in doubles play against Johns Hopkins in the first round of play. The Generals, ranked #2 in the Atlantic South Region and #8 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation, faced and defeated #11 Johns Hopkins, #16 DePauw and #13 Carnegie Mellon for the title. Meighan singles wins came over JHU's Elaine Baik (6-1, 6-3), who is ranked #7 in the Atlantic South Region. She also topped DePauw's Kelly Gebert (6-3, 6-3), the Central Region's eighth-ranked singles player, and came back to defeat CMU's Laura Chen (3-6, 6-4, 6-0), who is ranked #18 in the Atlantic South. Meighan is currently rated #2 in the Atlantic South behind Gabrielle Clark from Emory.

Patricia Verdezoto, Randolph, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Verdezoto, a freshman from Cuenza, Azuay, Ecuador, won her first four collegiate matches after enrolling at the College for the spring semester. She knocked off her Lynchburg College counterpart at No. 1 singles in straight sets Wednesday, and did the same thing Sunday with an emphatic 6-1, 6-0 win at Averett. In doubles play, she paired with fellow first-year Anna Culpepper to win at both the No. 1 doubles matches they played this week.

Allison Hupalo, Washington and Lee, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Hupalo, a freshman from Weston, Mass., started off her first spring campaign in Lexington by winning a pair of matches at No. 1 singles and her lone doubles contest at the second ladder position. Against Division I Radford University, Hupalo scored a 6-0, 6-4 win over her opponent. In the first conference match of the season, Hupalo topped Bridgewater's No. 1 player 6-0, 6-0, and then teamed with Sallie Griffin for an 8-0 win in doubles action.

SHEILA ANTHONY, Hollins, Freshman, Attack
Anthony, a freshman from Baltimore, Md., helped Hollins record its second straight victory, which proved to be the program's first ODAC win since the 2003 campaign. Anthony set a Hollins' record with 10 goals in the HU's 19-10 win over Randolph College last week. She missed tying the ODAC record by one goal. Anthony added one assist, five draw controls, four groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers. It marked her second straight impressive outing, following a six-goal outburst in a win over Agnes Scott.

KATIE GORDON, Bridgewater, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Gordon, a freshman from Winchester, Va., turned in a strong week for the Bridgewater Eagles women’s tennis team, propelling the Eagles to a 2-1 week, including a victory in Sunday’s ODAC Quarterfinal matchup against Guilford. Gordon opened the week with a loss to Roanoke’s Laura Dodson by a 6-3, 7-5 tally, before recovering for a 6-1, 7-5 win over 2010 ODAC first teamer Karen Montoya (Hollins) on Thursday. Gordon closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-1 win to help propel the Eagles to a 5-1 victory over Guilford. On the week, Gordon went 2-1 in doubles play with freshman teammate Katy Bergey at number one doubles.

ARIEL TAYLOR, Sweet Briar, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Taylor, a freshman from Springfield, Va., picks up her second weekly honor after a week that included a pair of singles wins over regionally-ranked opponents. Taylor, competing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles over the past week, went 4-0 overall in singles action and 2-2 in doubles play. She opened the week with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Washington and Lee's Lauren Lukas, currently the 19th-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Taylor continued her week with singles and doubles victories over Emory & Henry (6-1, 6-0 and 8-4) and Southern Virginia (6-1, 6-1 and 8-2). She capped her week with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Courtney Goimarac from Mary Washington, the 17th-rated player in the region. For the season, Taylor tops the ODAC singles win-loss records with a 15-0 mark, all from the No. 1 ladder position. She is currently ranked 20th in the region. The new ITA rankings are set to be released on April 14.

JEN SYNDER, Washington and Lee, Junior, No. 3 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Snyder, a junior from Highland Heights, Ohio, helped lead the No. 9 Generals to a 6-3 win over No. 8 Carnegie Mellon on Saturday at the Duchossois Tennis Center. Playing No. 3 singles, Snyder defeated CMU’s Alexandra Tapak in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, she partnered with junior Ellen Yeatman to top the CMU duo of Jennifer Chui and Alexandra Tapak, 8-2, for W&L’s only doubles victory of the match.

ARIEL TAYLOR, Sweet Briar, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Taylor, a freshman from Springfield, Va., helped the Vixens to a trio of 8-1 team victories by going undefeated at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Taylor opened with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Richard Stockton's top competitor, and followed that up with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 results over Millsaps' and Concordia's No. 1 singles players. Taylor and partner Moriah Burke surrendered just three points in doubles action, defeating their top ladder opponents 8-2, 8-0 and 8-1. Taylor is currently the 20th rated singles player in the Atlantic South Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). She and Burke sit ninth in the ITA's Atlantic South Region doubles rankings.

MARTHA VLAHAKIS, Randolph-Macon, Senior, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
Vlahakis, a senior from Rockville, Md., posted three singles and three doubles victories over the past week, helping the Yellow Jackets to a 4-0 showing and extending R-MC's team winning streak to five matches. Playing for the top ladder position, Vlahakis top her counterparts from Mary Baldwin, Ferrum and McDaniel, while combining with her teammate to sweep her opponents at No. 1 doubles. Vlahakis' only setback came in the beginning of the week due to retirement at No. 1 singles against Virginia Union.

CHRISTINA DOUGLAS, Washington and Lee, Sophomore, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Douglas, a sophomore from Fayetteville, N.Y., helped Washington and Lee to a trio of ODAC wins over the weekend, surrendering just three points in No. 1 singels and No. 2 doubles action. She and teammate Kerry Cotter topped Randolph-Macon's #2 duo, 8-1, followed by victories over Emory & Henry (8-0) and Virginia Wesleyan (8-2). She also won from the top singles spot against the Wasps, topping Ashley Wingate 6-0, 6-0. She was also leading VWC's Saida Bennou, 5-0, when the Marlin retired in-set.

SARAH BUDRUS, Hollins, Senior, No. 2 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Budrus, a senior from Huntington, W.Va., went 3-0 over the past week, including wins over a pair of ODAC squads. Competing at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, Budrus lost just 10 points between the two arenas, covering nine sets of play (six singles sets). She topped singles opponents from Mary Baldwin (6-0, 6-0), Emory & Henry (6-1, 6-0) and Guilford (6-3, 6-1). She won in doubles during each match, posting 8-0, 8-1 and 8-4 wins, respectively.

Yeatman, a junior from Little Rock, Ark, went a perfect 2-0 at singles and 2-0 at doubles as W&L swept both Lynchburg and Bridgewater by scores of 9-0 on Saturday. In singles, Yeatman defeated Bridgewater’s Katie Gordon, 6-1, 6-3 and Lynchburg’s Clare Wallendjack by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
