New Orleans, La. --- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its men’s weekly regional rankings and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference was represented well in the South/Southeast Region. Lynchburg College sits fifth, while Guilford College ranks eighth.
The Hornets have consistently ranked in the top eight each week this season. The LC harriers most recently competed in the Blue Ridge Cross Country Meet in Boone, NC with all Division I schools. Lynchburg notched a 10th-place finish and had three runners record season-best times. Ryan Van Alstine, Cody Stanton and Nolan Compton registered times good enough for third (25:38.90), fourth (26:13.20) and fifth (26:26.00) place nods, respectively in the conference’s top times for an eight-kilometer course.
The Quakers have worked their way into the regional rankings each of the last two weeks. Guilford won the NC Collegiate Championship over the weekend after placing five runners among the top seven to claim the title. Derick Kosgei won the race in a time of 25:58.00 and also owns the league’s top time (25:07.10). Chad Norton placed third (26:33.00) in the race and currently sits seventh (26:27.10) in the 8K ODAC’s top times list.
The Hornets and Quakers along with fellow ODAC teams will now begin gearing up for the 2010 ODAC Cross Championship hosted by Randolph College on October 30 in Lynchburg, VA. The men’s race is slated to begin at 11:00 am, followed by the women’s race at 12:00 pm.
