Generals Third in USTFCCCA Reg. Rankings

 

W&L Joined By Lynchburg and Bridgewater

New Orleans, La. --- The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its women’s weekly regional rankings and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference was represented well in the South/Southeast Region.  Washington and Lee earned a third place ranking, while Lynchburg College notched an eighth-place nod and Bridgewater College rounded out the poll in 10th place.

The Generals jumped three spots this week for its’ season-best regional ranking.  Most recently on the course, W&L recorded three runners in the Top 40 of a 290-person field at Gettysburg.  The Generals were led by Rebecca Bryer's 16th-place finish (24:04.00). Lauren Schultz took 17th overall (24:07.00) and Annelise Madison finished in 24:39 to place 38th.  Shultz and Madison own the sixth place (26:02.00) and eighth place (24:02.00) spots in the conference’s top times for a six-kilometer course. 

The Hornets, who have been in the regional rankings each week, recorded a 16th-place finish at the Blue Ridge Cross Country Race in Boone, NC.  Jennie Pernisi led Lynchburg with a 47th-place mark by finishing the 5k course in 18:51.00.  Pernisi, Krystal Foster and Molly Galloway all have recorded top 10 marks in the 6K ODAC top times list this season.

The Eagles have found their way into the rankings each of the past three weeks.  Bridgewater won the title at the Hood College Invitational over the weekend and Olivia Mills led BC with a first-place finish in a field of 98 runners.  Molly Smith finished second and three other Bridgewater harriers placed in the top 17.  Mills owns the No. 1 spot in the league’s top times with a time of 22:57.00 for a 6K race, while Smith has a fifth-place mark (23:59.00).

The Generals, Hornets and Eagles along with other fellow ODAC teams will now begin gearing up for the 2010 ODAC Cross Championship hosted by Randolph College on October 30 in Lynchburg, VA.  The men’s race is slated to begin at 11:00 am, followed by the women’s race at 12:00 pm.
