Game Week
Conference Call
The NCAA has
coordinated a coaches conference call on Monday morning, December 15. The call
will take place at 10:00am (EST) with both coaches featured. Both coaches will be required to participate on an NCAA
game management. Additional arrangements (number, access code)
for the call can be obtained from each school's SID, J.J. Nekoloff
(540-387-9073) with the ODAC, or Mark Bedics at the NCAA (317-917-6541) once
that information becomes available.
Credential
Pickup
All working
credentials must be claimed in person in the press headquarters (Hotel
Roanoke) on Thursday or Friday or at the West Gate press will call window at
Salem Stadium the morning of the game. The window will open at 9:00 a.m.
Credentials will be assigned to the individual using them or their company,
and identification will be required. Photography credentials must be picked up
by the photographer or a specified representative of that organization (sports
editor, etc.). PHOTO ARMBANDS FOR SIDELINE PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE DISTRIBUTED
AT THE WILLCALL WINDOW AT THE STADIUM ON GAMEDAY OR AT THE PRESS HOTEL. The credential
allows the media representative an assigned seat in the press box and access
to the sidelines, dressing rooms and the interview room from late in the
fourth quarter on. Everyone who receives working press credentials, except
photographers, has been assigned a reserved seat in the press box or a
designated press area. Photographers
who are issued sideline photo passes are restricted to the field.
Practice
Interview Policies
Interviews
of both coaches and teams will be held on Thursday and Friday. Practice on
Thursday is closed to the media. Coaches and players will be available for a
short time prior to a closed practice session on Thursday. Additional information on
the availability of both coaches and players on Thursday should be secured
with each team's Sports Information Director no later than Wednesday morning
(Dec. 17) prior to their departure for Salem. Friday’s
interview sessions will be held at the open practice sessions. In the event of
inclement weather, interviews will be held at the indoor practice facilities
secured by the City of Salem.
Post-game
Interview Policy
Postgame Interviews will
be conducted in the Salem Stadium Maintenance Building located behind the
locker rooms. All
coaches and students will be available for interviews.
Following the
championship game, selected student-athletes may be required to register for
drug testing. Student-athletes cannot delay drug testing registration except
to grant an interview to ESPN which has purchased rights to the contest; the
interview will last no more than four minutes. After the registration
procedure, each student-athlete will be available for interviews for up to ONE
HOUR before the time he is scheduled to report to the drug-testing facility.
No
interviews may take place with the student-athletes during the 10-minute
cooling-off period or during registration for drug testing.
The
championship game media coordinator or his designee shall escort the sports
information director, the coach and a minimum of two players to the interview
area after the 10-minute cooling off period.
All dressing
rooms shall be open to the media after a 10-minute cooling-off period. This
period begins when the coach enters the dressing room immediately after the
game. The coach must proceed directly to the dressing room after the game
unless requested to remain for an interview which will last no more than four
minutes by ESPN. THE DRESSING ROOM SHALL BE OPEN TO THE MEDIA FOR UP TO
ONE HOUR AFTER THE 10 MINUTE COOLING-OFF PERIOD HAS EXPIRED.
The coach shall
designate a minimum of two players to report to the interview area immediately
after the dressing room is opened to the media. The media coordinator also may
ask the coach to include additional student-athletes to join the group in the
interview room if their performance during the contest merits their presence.
THE POST-GAME
PRESS CONFERENCE FORMAT SPECIFIES THAT THE LOSING COACH AND PLAYERS BE
SCHEDULED IN THE INTERVIEW ROOM BEFORE THE WINNING COACH AND PLAYERS.
The interviews with the losing coach and players generally will not exceed a
maximum of 15 minutes.
Regardless of
any personal regular-season radio and/or television contracts, the coach is
first obligated to the entire press staffing the championship game and must
report to the interview room immediately after the 10-minute cooling-off
period expires. The
coach cannot delay a post-game interview with the covering press to conduct a
program for a single newspaper, radio station or television reporter except
for an interview which will last no more than four minutes by ESPN. After
fulfilling this commitment to the press staffing the championship game, the
coach may participate in a special interview.
Coaches shall
not become available to any media representatives prior to the 10-minute
cooling-off period. However, they may immediately report to the interview room
and make themselves available to all media covering the championship game. If
a coach permits a single media representative to enter the dressing room
before the cooling-off period expires, the dressing room will be opened
immediately to all media desiring access to the area.
Photography
Policies
Photographers
working on the sidelines are restricted to behind the "limit lines"
that surround the playing field. No photographers are permitted in the
"team areas," which are located between the 25-yard lines. NO MEDIA
PERSONNEL OR THEIR EQUIPMENT SHALL BE IN THE TEAM AREA, AND NO MEDIA PERSONNEL
MAY COMMUNICATE IN ANY WAY WITH PERSONS IN THE TEAM AREA.
A photographer
approved to work on the sidelines shall obtain a photo credential for the
championship game from the media coordinator. All other photographers are
restricted to upper level photo areas.
A photo
transmission area will be set up in Press Box A on the field house end of the
stadium. Photographers should contact Stagg Bowl media coordinator Brad
Bankston by phone at (540) 389-7373 or in person at the Hotel Roanoke or the
Roanoke Times photo department, 981-3382, about photo assistance from the
local daily.
Press Services
Fax services
will be available throughout the game and in the press box following the game.
A media representative will be available to take your requests for fax
transmission towards the end of the third quarter. Quotes from the winning and
losing coaches will be included in the final stats book, which will be
distributed in the press box following the interview session. An adequate
number of pool phone lines will be installed for the media’s use. Any other
requests should be directed to media coordinator J.J. Nekoloff.
High Speed
internet access (wireless and hard wired) will be available for the media's use. Additional information
on the system will be available in the press box.
Telephones
An adequate
number of pool phones will be available in the press box during and following
the game. Numbers for these phones can be found on the phone handset.
