Edmonds and Ewalt Headline 2006 ODAC All-Conference Swimming Team

SALEM, VA – Co-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimmers-of-the-Year Kim Edmonds of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and Erin Ewalt of Randolph-Macon headline the 2006 ODAC Swimming All-Conference team announced Wednesday.

Edmonds won the 100 and 200 breast last weekend at Radford.  The Mechanicsville, Va., native was also second in the 200 IM to help her seal all-conference honors.

Ewalt took first-place in the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 back and was a part of two winning relays, the 400 medley and 800 free, on her way to an unprecedented fourth Swimmer-of-the-Year honor.  Ewalt becomes the only female in the history of the league to win Athlete-of-the-Year in her sport on four occasions.

Ewalt also was named 2006 Swimming ODAC Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year by the league’s Sports Information Directors.  The Reisterstown, Md., native posts a 3.41 grade-point average while majoring in economics and business at RMC.

For their efforts, Edmonds and Ewalt will be heading to Minneapolis to take part in the NCAA National Swim Meet that will take place March 9th-11th.

Midlothian Va., native Lindsey Strachan of Washington and Lee was honored as Rookie-of-the-Year after winning the 500 free and 100 back and finishing second in the 200 back.

Kiki Jacobs was honored by her peers as the 2006 ODAC Coach-of-the-Year after leading her W&L squad to its 13th consecutive ODAC title.  W&L finished the season 10-5 and a perfect 6-0 in the ODAC.  2006 marks the 10th-time Jacobs has received coach-of-the-year honors.
