BC Advances With Win Over R-MC
#2 Bridgewater To Face #3 Hollins in Semifinals
BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- On Saturday afternoon at
the BC Tennis Courts, the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team
posted a 5-0 shutout win over visiting Randolph-Macon in the
quarterfinal round of the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) Tournament.With the win, the Eagles move on to next
weekend's semifinal round to be played on the campus of
Randolph-Macon.
In top flight doubles action, the sophomore duo of Katy Bergey and
Katie Gordon made quick work of the Yellow Jackets' number one team
with an easy 8-0 win.
Sophomore Brittany Wilson and junior Olivia Stone rolled to an 8-4
victory at number two in the tightest matchup of the afternoon,
while seniors Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer kept things
rolling for the Eagles with a 8-0 shutout win at number three to
hand the Eagles a three-match lead as play shifted to
singles.
McConaughy got the Eagles to within one win of the match victory
with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six. Bergey wrapped up the match with
a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number two singles.
The matches at number one, three, four and five singles went
unfinished.
Bridgewater, the number two seed, will tangle with third-seeded
Hollins next weekend as the ODAC Tournament shifts sites to
Randolph-Macon. The Eagles knocked off Hollins during the regular
season by a 5-4 score.
