Randolph-Macon Advances Past LC
Yellow Jackets to Face W&L or EMU on Saturday
SALEM, Va. --- Randolph-Macon Women's
Basketball went on a 24-4 run that spanned over seven minutes
midway through the second half to pull away from No. 8 seed
Lynchburg and secure a 74-49 win in the first round of the 2011
ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday. The Yellow Jackets
will now face either No. 4 Washington & Lee or No. 5 Eastern
Mennonite Saturday, February 26th at 1:00 in the
Salem Civic Center.
R-MC was lead by First Team All-ODAC selection Maggie
Roy who scored a game high 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting
from the field and an 8-for-8 mark at the free throw line. Jordan
Cantrell joined in double figure scoring with 12 points
while Taylor
Wieczorek added nine points and five rebounds.
With the Jackets leading 20-15 at the 4:19 mark in the first half,
Kaite Crump knocked down a pair of free throws to pull the Hornets
within three.
Randolph-Macon responded with a two from Roy that opened up a 7-2
run to put R-MC up 27-19 heading into the intermission.
Katie Williams stretched the lead to 29-19 with a layup to
start the second half but Lynchburg rallied and pulled within five
on a Roslyn Alexander jumper with 14:48 left to play.
Roy knocked down a three less than a minute later that ignited a
24-4 run, capped by another Roy trifecta with 7:03 to play to put
the Yellow Jackets up 57-32.
Randolph-Macon held their 25 point lead throughout the remainder of
the contest, winning by a final of 74-49.
Lynchburg held a 47-40 edge on the glass but shot just 27% percent
from the field to R-MC's 37%.
The Hornets were led by Courtney Brewer who scored 13 points and
had five boards.
Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball will now face the winner of No. 4
Washington & Lee and No. 5 Eastern Mennonite Saturday, February
26th at 1:00 in the Salem Civic Center.
