W&L, Bridgewater Volleyball Teams Ranked in South Region
Salem, Va. – The Washington and Lee and Bridgewater College volleyball teams are both ranked in the NCAA Division III South Region Poll. The Generals are ranked #3 while the Eagles are tabbed at #7.
Washington and Lee (19-2, 7-0 ODAC) is led by junior outside hitter Michelle Chastain (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep). Chastain leads the team in kills with 3.95 per game and ranks second in digs with 3.88 per game. Junior Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) has tallied 220 kills in 64 games (3.44 kpg) and leads the team in digs with 263 (4.11 dpg). Sophomore setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) has tallied 829 assists through 65 games (12.75 apg). She also is the team leader in service aces with 41 on the season. Sophomore middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) is hitting a team-best .381 with 218 kills in 404 attempts.
The Eagles (22-4, 5-1 ODAC) are led by senior outside hitter Candy Baker (Faber, VA/Nelson County) who is averaging 3.97 kills per game. She also leads the team in digs with 229 through 78 games (2.94 dpg). Bridgewater also boasts two hitters with a hitting percentage over .400. Junior middle blocker Krystal Hermes (Warrenton, VA/Liberty) is hitting .458 with 287 kills through 78 games. Sophomore middle hitter Heather St. Clair (New Castle, VA/Craig County) is hitting .400 with 197 kills though 77 games. Sophomore Katherine Heath (Roanoke, VA/Northside) is responsible for many of those kills, as she leads the squad in assists with 727 (9.20 apg).
