VWC’s Sharon Hay Named ODAC Women’s Soccer Player-of-the-Year

SALEM, VA – Virginia Wesleyan’s Sharon Hay has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Soccer Player-of-the-Year as the league announced its all-conference teams on Wednesday.

A senior from Virginia Beach, Va., Hay currently has 20 goals and three assists for a total of 43 points.  Her points rank fourth in the league while her goal total is tied for second in the ODAC.  Hay has helped the Marlins to an 18-1-1 overall record and a first-place regular season finish in the league.  For her career, Hay has tallied 47 goals and 13 assists for 107 total points.

Rookie-of-the-Year honors went to Eastern Mennonite’s Katie Lamm.  A freshman from Newmanstown, Pa., Lamm led the Royals with 33 points on a team-best 15 goals and 3 assists.   Her point total ranks eighth in the ODAC  while her goal total is tied for sixth.

The Sports Information Directors in the ODAC honored Hollins’ Lindsay Lucas as the 2005 Women’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year.  A senior goalkeeper from Centerville, Va., Lucas played in 11 games in net making 95 saves.   In the classroom, Lucas fashions a 3.93 grade-point-average while majoring in biology with a math minor at Hollins.

For the second-time in three-years, Jeff Bowers of Virginia Wesleyan has been honored by his peers as the ODAC Coach-of-the-Year.  Bowers guided the Marlins to a 10-0-1 regular season finish in the ODAC and the team is currently 18-1-1 overall.  The Marlins earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and they will travel to Christopher Newport on Saturday for first-round play.  VWC downed CNU 1-0 earlier this season.
