ODAC Cross Country Scholar-Athletes Announced
Salem, Va. – Washington and Lee’s Steve Chambers and Lynchburg’s Coral McCree have been named the ODAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athletes of the Year for the 2003 season. The inaugural award is given by the conference’s Sports Information Directors. In order to be eligible, the athlete must have a 3.2 grade point average and have reached junior athletic and academic standings at their institution.
Chambers, a junior from Christiana, Pennsylvania, finished in third place in both the W&L and Roanoke Invitationals earlier in the season. He also placed third in the state meet and 10th at the Dickinson Invitational. On Saturday in the ODAC Championships, Chambers finished 11th with a time of 29:49. A W&L and ODAC Scholar-Athlete, Chambers has a 3.82 GPA in his business major.
McCree, a junior from Manassas, Virginia, finished in fifth place at Saturday’s ODAC Championships with a time of 26:54. Earlier this season at the Stetson University Invitational, she finished first on the team and 24th overall out of 113 Division I and II runners. McCree is a biomedical science major with a double minor in English and French. She has a cumulative grade point average of 3.73 through four semesters of study. A Lynchburg College Dean’s List honoree, McCree also competes for the Hornet track & field team.
